Deck Restoration and Power Washing

A deck that has gone grey is not finished. It is just unfinished, and Indiana weather did that in about three seasons.

We restore decks, fences, porches, pergolas, and gazebos. That means washing off the grey oxidised layer and any mildew, letting the wood dry properly, sanding back what needs it, and re-coating with a stain or sealer that will actually survive another few winters. We also do straight power washing on siding, concrete, driveways, and patios when a wash is all you need.

Drying time is the part most people underestimate. Wood that has just been washed holds water for days, and staining over damp boards is the number one reason deck finishes peel a year later. We build that wait into the schedule instead of pretending it does not exist. It is why a deck restoration is usually a two-visit job rather than a one-day job.

Choosing between a clear sealer, a semi-transparent stain, and a solid stain is mostly a question of how much of the wood you want to see against how much protection and how much cover-up you need. Older boards with a lot of variation usually look better under a semi-transparent or solid, while newer wood is worth showing off. We will look at your boards and tell you what will actually look good rather than selling you the most expensive option.

Fences are the same job at a different scale, and gates, pergolas, and gazebos come along with them. If you have a screened porch or a covered deck, those get treated as part of the same project so the colours actually relate to each other.

Power washing on its own is worth booking in spring. Siding that has gone green on the north face, a concrete patio with two years of grime on it, and a driveway with tyre marks all come back with a wash and nothing else, and it costs a fraction of what painting does.

What That Covers

  • Deck and porch stripping, sanding, and re-coating
  • Fences, gates, pergolas, and gazebos
  • Clear sealer, semi-transparent, and solid stains
  • Power washing for siding and trim
  • Concrete, driveway, and patio washing
  • Proper dry time built into the schedule

Deck Restoration and Power Washing Questions

My deck has gone grey. Does it need replacing? +

Usually not. Grey is oxidised surface wood, and washing and sanding it back generally reveals sound board underneath. We will tell you honestly at the estimate if any boards are actually rotten.

Why can't you wash and stain a deck on the same day? +

Because washed wood holds water for days, and staining over damp boards is the main reason deck finishes peel within a year. We schedule the dry time in rather than skip it.

Do you do power washing without painting? +

Yes. Siding, concrete, driveways, and patios can be booked as a wash on its own, and in spring that is often all a house needs.

“Amanda, painted a bunch of different rooms in our house about 2-3 years ago. Kids bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms, basement. She did a really great job with all the areas she painted. Her prices were also, affordable. I would recommend her to anyone I know needing a painter. We would also, use her again to do any painting we might need in the near future.”
